The governing body of the City of Belleville is City Council. It consists of the Mayor and 8 Councillors (6 from Belleville Ward and 2 from Thurlow Ward). Members of Council are elected by residents to a four year term of office

The Election Officer coordinates the activities associated with the conduct of municipal and school board elections. Elections take place every four years.
