
The Engineering & Development Services Department is responsible for:
· providing/overseeing engineering design services for built infrastructure, including water
and sewer systems, storm water management systems, roads and bridges, other forms of
built infrastructure (excluding buildings), and treatment plants;
· providing project management services for major capital works projects (roads, sewers,
water mains, SWM systems, bridges, sidewalks, trails, large park development projects,
parking lots, and other major structures) and support services to other Departments inundertaking new (large-scale) building projects;
· overseeing the development and implementation of asset management strategies for built
infrastructure, including capital maintenance and extension/expansion related thereto;
· undertaking transportation/traffic planning;
· undertaking waste management master planning;
· undertaking land use planning services, including preparation of policies (ie. official plans)and regulatory by-laws related thereto (ie. zoning by-laws);
· establishing and administering land development standards and approval procedures(subdivisions, site plans, severances, etc.);
· providing building permitting and inspection services pursuant to the OBC;
· providing by-law enforcement services respecting private lands and buildings with respect
to property standards, zoning, signs, and similar by-laws;
· assisting with the development of corporate accessibility plans and standards for all
municipal facilities and services;
providing capital planning and budgeting services for built infrastructure.
